Nation Building and Jobs Plan

Building the Education Revolution

An Australian Government Funded Initiative

Requests for Expressions of Interest

The Tasmanian Department of Education invites expressions of interest from the building and construction industry in the following categories:

• Architects and Building Designers

• Building and Building Maintenance Contractors

• Building Surveyors

• Quantity Surveyors

• Civil Engineers

• Structural Engineers

This information will assist in identifying local capacity to support the forthcoming Building the Education Revolution (BER) program. For contractors to register you must be able to provide a building practitioner accreditation number.

Those registered may then be called on to bid for work stemming from this project. The department is especially interested in seeking registrations from smaller regional builders and contractors even though they may not hold any form of pre – qualification with the Department of Treasury and Finance.

The Australian Government has committed funding of up to $300 million for Tasmanian Government schools over three years to provide new facilities and refurbishments in Tasmanian schools to provide 21st century facilities for school communities through the BER program. This is a critical component of the Australian Government’s Economic Stimulus Nation Building and Jobs Plan giving our schools the attention they so richly deserve. To ensure that BER has the greatest impact on job support, it is essential that construction and maintenance work is undertaken as quickly as possible.

The three elements of the BER are:

  • Primary Schools for the 21st Century.  For projects up to $3 million for all Tasmanian primary schools, K-12 schools (primary school component) and special schools to build or renew infrastructure including libraries, halls and classrooms.
  • Science and Language Centres for the 21st Century Secondary Schools.  For projects up to $2 million for the construction of new science labratories or language learning centre in secondary schools.
  • National Schools Pride Program.  For projects up to $200,000 for all schools to refurbish and renew existing infrastructure.

Tasmanian Water Projects Registration

The Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board will soon be advertising various tenders and work packages for nearly $300 million worth of water-related projects in Tasmania. The Industry Capability Network Tasmania is assisting the Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board with the management of suppliers for these projects.

Companies wishing to bid for upcoming projects and work packages must register on the ICN Tasmania Water Projects Directory by either clicking here or following the Major Project link on the left.

Work packages will be issued under a pre-qualification criteria model depending on the scope of work required and the Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board will be using the ICN Water Capability Directory as its main communication tool to industry. The directory will also be linked to other significant water projects around Australia and once a company is registered on the system it can register for other projects and work packages.

If you register for the Tasmanian projects you will be automatically registered on the ANZ Water Capability Directory. You can also register for other water projects that are posted on Project Gateway using your personal login and password.
